A large part of why I called my business The Nature of You, is that each person has different DNA, and reacts differently to foods, medications, herbs, and even nutrients. We are now aware that some people do not process folate like others – and have what is called an MTHFR variation, we also know that some people think coriander tastes like soap due to genetic variation?! So imagine if you could find out what foods do and do not agree with you personally?
Well you can! And myself and my family have just started the process. I was lucky enough the attend a seminar recently on this revolutionary method that has been perfected over the last 30 years, and I am excited to see whether this may pinpoint why I get recurrent eczema on my hands, and why my daughter gets rashes on her legs that come and go. I have tried food symptom diaries but haven’t been able to figure out which food or product is upsetting either of us. We are also excited for the added benefits – many people find their energy levels, brain fog, and stress improve when they allow their body to heal through eating this way.
The analysis is non invasive, and therefore great for kids, and only uses a small sample of hair or saliva. This is assessed against over 500 food and household items, as well as fabrics, mould, and pollutants, and gives a clear plan of what is, and isn’t compatible at present. This isn’t an allergy test – as most people are aware of their allergens as the reaction occurs quite quickly after touching or consuming it. This analysis is for the foods you cannot pinpoint, that you don’t know to remove – they are likely a healthy option, but aren’t working for your body at the moment. For some people it might be lettuce. Or a certain spice. Or is it the brand of bread you are using?
For us, the results have been fascinating. When they first arrived, I checked my toddlers, and I thought, well this is silly, my daughters results just reflect what she eats regularly, and the brand of nappies we use. Then it hit me! How does this analysis know what brand of nappies we use?!? It is that sensitive. She had been getting a rash around her tummy and I thought it was food based as it would come and go – but two days after changing nappy brands – rash gone!
I compiled a spreadsheet so we can cross reference who can and cannot eat what, at the moment, and some of the items that came up were fascinating – certain types of crackers but not others, one brand of sunscreen, one type of formula… We all had similarities – tomato, capsicum, onion, chicken, and pork were common, and then differences – I shouldn’t have rice or quinoa, and Quinn shouldn’t have pineapple, banana or strawberry! I shouldn’t use Domestos, and Quinn never does the cleaning anyway… haha.
Obviously these are common foods and products so it isn’t always an easy decision to completely avoid them for 6 months until the re-test, however if there is a chance it will improve our skin, and allow our bodies to function correctly, its worth a shot right?! For people experiencing reflux, constipation, bloating, migraines, asthma, eczema, acne, sinus issues, hayfever, sleep disorders and aches and pains (plus many more!) – this test can help turn things around really quickly. It is also a brilliant test for babies experiencing colic, reflux or eczema – as it can show what foods in mums diet may be a trigger, or what brands of formula are an issue.
